Joe began practicing as an associate at the Holstein Law Group in September 2009.

Joe was born in Louisiana and lived outside Washington D.C. until he was 13 and his family moved to St. Paul, Minnesota. He attended Cretin-Derham Hall High School in St. Paul and graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Arts in English and History in 2002. In 2004, he earned his Master of Fine Arts in Fiction Writing from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. While at Bowling Green, Joe taught 100 and 200-level courses in the English Department and served as the Assistant Director of the Creative Writing Department. Since then, his fiction has been published in a number of small literary magazines and he was twice nominated for the Pushcart Prize. After obtaining his Master’s, Joe accepted a position as a Sales Executive for a subsidiary of UnitedHealthcare specializing in ancillary group insurance plans for large companies in Chicago, Illinois. After a year and a half in corporate sales, eager to use his skills in writing and reading, Joe began law school at Creighton University School of Law in Omaha, Nebraska and graduated in 2009. While at Creighton, he was a member of the Board of Editors of the Creighton Law Review and a two-year member of the Jessup International Law Moot Court Team. His law review article, “Taming the Wild West: An Examination of Private Student Loan Consolidation Companies’ Violation of Section 43(a) of the Lanham Act By Using Trade Names and Logos That Closely Resemble Those Used by the Department of Education,” was published in the Creighton Law Review and selected by the Burton Foundation as one of the top fifteen student written law review articles in the country for 2009. The Burton Awards, in association with the Library of Congress and Law Library of Congress, is a national awards program that celebrates exemplary legal writing. In 2009, also among those honored at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. were Justice Antonin Scalia and screenwriter David E. Kelley. During Joe’s time in Omaha, he clerked at the law firm of Gross & Welch and interned with the Honorable Laurie Smith Camp at the United States District Court for the District of Nebraska.

Besides his current job as an attorney and past jobs in education and insurance, Joe has also worked as a landscape architect, outdoor sprinkler installer, rink guard, manual laborer, bouncer, barback, busboy, dishwasher, softball umpire, and licensed fumigator. He was once offered a job driving a Zamboni, but passed. Currently, he lives in St. Paul, Minnesota.
